About TypeRoot
TypeRoot is an independent, original personality test inspired by the psychological type theory of Carl Gustav Jung. It is not the official MBTI® assessment — it isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The Myers-Briggs Company. We built our own instrument from scratch so that personality typing can be free, friendly and honest.
Why we built it
Personality tests are everywhere, and most of them want your email before they'll tell you anything. TypeRoot takes the opposite approach: the core experience is free, no sign-up, and processed entirely in your browser. Nothing you answer is ever uploaded or sold.
What the test measures
The test scores you on four dichotomies from Jungian type theory:
- Energy (E/I) — whether you're recharged by the outer world of people and action, or the inner world of ideas and quiet.
- Information (S/N) — whether you naturally trust concrete, present facts or patterns, possibilities and meaning.
- Decisions (T/F) — whether you decide by logic and consistency or by values and people.
- Structure (J/P) — whether you prefer decided, planned structure or open, flexible exploration.
These four pairs combine into 16 four-letter types. The questions were written by a single human-heavy process with two goals: everyday naturalness (no clinical lingo) and balance (each dimension has reverse-scored items to catch patterned answering).
The honest limits
A 60-question questionnaire cannot capture a whole person, and a four-letter code is a map, not the territory. Your result is a starting point for self-reflection — the goal is to understand patterns and widen your choices, not to put you in a box. If the result feels wrong, that's useful information too: read the type you wanted to get and see what it tells you.
